The homeless would not be homeless if they had a home they could call their own, right?
When America was settled, pioneers could throw up a shack and make themselves at home as squatters. There were very few homeless.
Now the land is all owned in America and the government nor the people are enlightened on how to do its part. It's time to get the word out!
Investers build where they are sure they will get a sizable return on their investment. They choose sites where demand for housing greatly exceeds the supply.
Housing units you see going up have nothing to do with the homeless because they can't afford them. The government could put up housing units for the poor and needy to cure homelessness, but the homeless can't afford their own lobbyist nor do they have the big bucks to finance political campaigns. So they are forgotten except in campaign rheteric.
Were the legislators in America willing to mandate a certain number of small closet like rooms in every hotel and apartment complex for the poor and the needy, the problems of homelessness would soon subside. Those designated space rentals for the poor would have to be regulated price wise or landlords would make it impossible for the homeless to qualify.
Nobody wants the homeless in their neighborhood, so it is obvious everyone has to have a few of them in the kind of rooms the YMCA used to provide where roomers would share the same bathroom. They would have room for a bed, a small table, a small dresser and a small closet with an overhead light and an electrical socket and a window.
It really doesn't take much to solve homelessness. A few pen strokes of legislation and America could be back on track, but do you know most of the politicians do not really care. That is why they don't have the answers. You do your part and make sure your representatives are aware of how easy it could be solve homelessness.
